On November 16, 2022, the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced its plan for a new, multistage workforce initiative. The 1.65 million dollar investment by the Charles Koch Foundation will be used to create a platform to match employers with skills instead of credentials.
JobSIDE’s (Job Skills for In-Demand Employment) goal is to improve skill-based hiring and career advancement for all. The platform will be a suite of tools and applications that directly sources the data for skills and jobs from employers, allowing education and training programs to align with what employers want.
According to the U.S Chamber of Commerce’s new website page for the initiative, once JobSIDE is fully developed, some of the features will include:
- Sourcing the data on skills and jobs directly from employers will enable education and training programs to align to employer needs.
- Aiding in change management with employers by positively shifting key behaviors and processes when organizing, sharing, or using information about their jobs and workforce needs
- Empowering education and training providers with the ability to map employer-validated competencies and skills to curriculum, credentials, assessments, and records of learning.
JobSIDE will be a part of the Talent Pipeline Management initiative/Lab virtual learning platform that will launch in early 2023. However, JobSIDE will be piloted throughout 2023 and will deploy in 2024.
