Republic Services keeps our community clean by providing recycling and waste solutions. From the bottom of our hearts, we are thankful for Republic Services’ essential workers. They are continuing to serve greater Arlington and neighborhoods across the nation. The Chamber is proud to see Republic Services taking an innovative approach to show appreciation for their employees while supporting local businesses across the US and right here in greater Arlington.
Republic Services has launched Committed to Serve a $20 million initiative to recognize its front line employees in the field, their families and small business customers across the country. For the past month, Republic Services has been purchasing meals for its 28,000 front line employees and their families. Employees have been enjoying free lunches at work, along with take-home meals from local restaurants.
This nationwide initiative is helping greater Arlington’s restaurants, and Republic Services has provided meals for approximately 400 employees per week in our community. To date, $97,000 has been spent with local restaurants, including Dino’s Subs II, Fred’s Downtown Philly, Gordo’s BBQ & Grill, Honey Baked Ham, J Gilligan’s Bar & Grill, Mama’s Pizza, Marquez Bakery, The Grease Monkey and The Tipsy Oak.
There is no better way to thank someone than with a delicious meal, especially at a time when local restaurants need our support. It is heart-warming meals to see Republic Services’ employees at a time when they are needed the most.
“This is just another way for us to let our guys know how much we appreciate them and their hard work in serving the Arlington community,” said Richard Gelowicz, Arlington Business Unit manager. “And since our daily operations are based in Arlington, doing this also helps with supporting the community we serve.”
This initiative has received so much excitement that Republic Services expanded it. On April 17, the company began giving each front line bi-weekly $100 gift cards (total of $400 per employee) to support local businesses. Approximately 325 employees based in Arlington qualify for this program, which will inject an additional $130,000 into the local economy.
“Small businesses are often hit the hardest during times of uncertainty. The ‘Committed to Serve’ initiative is a gesture of support for both our employees and our local small businesses, many of whom are our customers,” said Vince Hrabal, Manager of Municipal Services with Republic Services. “The reaction from small business owners and employees has been pure appreciation. Additionally, our employees feel a sense of pride being able to give back to the local community they serve.”
