On March 19, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott announced temporary statewide closures and restrictions for businesses. To maximize social distancing, restaurants were ordered to stop allowing customers to dine-in. However, Governor Abbot encouraged people to order pick-up or delivery from local eateries.
Despite adapting their business model, many local restaurants are struggling to make the same amount of revenue they were before the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging time, First Rate instituted an employee initiative to support the restaurants in our community.
Two First Rate employees decided to provide each member of their department $15 per day to spend at a locally owned restaurant while employees work from home. Senior management decided to follow their lead by expanding the program to all employees. By the end of March, this initiative will create a total of $150 per person going towards mom-and-pop businesses.
First Rate’s innovative act of corporate social responsibility encourages its employees to purchase from restaurants in an effort to support our local economy. First Rate’s solidarity for the greater Arlington business community has not gone unnoticed and is appreciated by all.
“We are proud to see our members supporting one another during this unprecedented time,” said Greater Arlington Chamber President & CEO Michael Jacobson. First Rate is taking to heart our mission of Together, We Succeed.
