Graduations are looking a little different for the Arlington ISD class of 2020. The newly released Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines for in-person graduation ceremonies left the district searching for new solutions that would still give the students the celebration they have been waiting for.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his family are helping AISD celebrate their bright, young students and their accomplishments. The Gene and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation offered to donate the world-class AT&T Stadium for all seven AISD schools to have in-person graduation ceremonies. The stadium’s 80,000 seats and convertible roof make it an ideal location that meets TEA guidelines and gives the students one last time to come together as the class of 2020.
“High school graduation is one of the most significant moments of a young person’s life,” said Charlotte Jones. “It is also very meaningful for the parents of all of the students who are reaching this milestone. We are so very proud to be able to, in our own way, help to make this event as special as it can possibly be in these most difficult of times. Arlington is the home of AT&T Stadium and the Dallas Cowboys, and all of the students of the AISD are part of our family. We want you to enjoy this day and remember it forever.”
The class of 2020 has so much to celebrate and the Gene, and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation is making it possible. The Jones family’s act of kindness represents what our community is all about. We find strength in building community and prioritize helping one another. The Chamber is proud to see another one of its members actively work to make greater Arlington a great place to live and work. Together, We Succeed.
“For our more than 4,000 seniors at seven high schools,” said Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, Superintendent of Schools for Arlington ISD, “we know that being able to graduate in a beautiful location with their classmates and families present will be more meaningful than ever.” The Jones family’s act of generosity is appreciated not only by the AISD, students and their families but all of the community.
“This is a classic example of the Arlington way,” said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. “When a problem presents itself, our community works together and figures out a way to solve it. Our graduating seniors deserve to be celebrated and thanks to the creative thinking of the Dallas Cowboys and AISD, these seniors will get a graduation they’ll never forget.”
