The Blueprint of Brilliance:
Deciphering the 6 Types of Working Genius
By Michele S. Gooch
In the dynamic world of work, understanding your unique strengths and how they contribute to a team’s success is invaluable. Patrick Lencioni, a renowned author and business consultant, introduced the “6 Types of Working Genius” model to help individuals and teams achieve greater productivity and satisfaction. This model identifies six distinct types of genius that reflect the different ways people excel in a work environment.
- The Genius of Wonder: Individuals with this genius are naturally inclined to question the status quo and ponder the potential for change or improvement. They excel at identifying problems or opportunities that others might overlook, serving as the catalysts for innovation and growth.
- The Genius of Invention: Those who possess the genius of invention thrive on creating original solutions to problems. They are not satisfied with mere improvements; instead, they seek to develop new and untested ideas that can transform the way things are done.
- The Genius of Discernment: This type of genius involves a keen intuition and the ability to evaluate ideas or solutions critically. People with discernment can intuitively sense the viability of an idea, making them invaluable in decision-making processes.
- The Genius of Galvanizing: Individuals with the genius of galvanizing are natural leaders who inspire and mobilize others towards action. They excel at communication and are adept at rallying a team around a common goal or vision.
- The Genius of Enablement: The genius of enablement is characterized by a willingness to support and facilitate the ideas and efforts of others. People with this genius are the team players who provide the necessary resources and assistance to turn ideas into reality.
- The Genius of Tenacity: Those who exhibit the genius of tenacity are focused on bringing projects to completion. They ensure that initiatives are carried out efficiently and persist through challenges to achieve the desired outcomes.
By identifying and leveraging these six types of working genius, individuals and teams can optimize their collaboration and productivity. Understanding your own geniuses and those of your teammates can lead to more fulfilling work experiences and greater success in achieving collective goals.
