Tillie Burgin has been in the business of making dreams come true for over 35 years in Arlington. Through her nonprofit organization, Mission Arlington, she is meeting the needs of many around the city and have blessed thousands of families through her hard work and vision.
Mission Arlington has been serving the community and changing lives since 1986. Volunteers from around the city, state and nation have made a huge difference for families throughout the DFW metroplex. The services provided by Mission Arlington vary from person to person, but every service is free and accessible to those who need it. Some examples of fulfilled needs include food, clothes, furniture, appliances, prescription medication, and financial assistance.
Tillie began mission work in South Korea and moved back to the states in 1978. She found herself questioning, “if we could do missions in Korea, why can’t we do missions in Arlington?” Thus the original format of prayer meetings and Bible studies quickly multiplied into the organization we know today.
Tillie and Mission Arlington staff have touched so many lives that they often times find past families that have needed assistance, come back and pay it forward to others who are struggling. There have been several members of the Chamber that have expressed their appreciation for Tillie and how she helped them during a hard time. She has shown Arlington that love and compassion is the way to build up a community.
As a Chamber, we have seen the way Mission Arlington has transformed the community and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with them for our Annual Holiday Toy Drive and Latino Business Group Give Back Day in December. We look forward to seeing Tillie and Mission Arlington continue changing the lives of the greater Arlington residents.
