Smoke N Ash BBQ, located in Arlington, TX, at 7301 Matlock Rd Ste 127, is the first BBQ place to serve a fusion of Texas and Ethiopian BBQ. Married couple Patrick and Fasicka Hicks combined their childhood foods to create a delicious and unique bbq combo.
Patrick was born and raised in Waco, TX, and later met his wife, Fascia, born in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The couple started with a smoke trailer in 2012, serving only bbq at weekend pop-ups.
In 2019, Fasicka suggested mixing it up by adding Ethiopian food to the menu. Customers began asking for combinations of the two, and soon Tex-Ethiopian bbq was created. The barbecue is Texas bbq infused with Ethiopian spices. The spices are prepared in Ethiopia by Fasicka’s sister and then brought to Texas for fresh and bold flavor.
Since 2012, Smoke N Ash has been nationally recognized and featured in The New York Times, CBS News, Texas Monthly, and the Dallas Observer. The expansive menu includes traditional Texas bbq, traditional Ethiopian food, and their original Tex-Ethiopian bbq. Some customer favorites include the Big Ash loaded baked potato, Lamb Stew, Tex-Ethiopian platter for 2, and the loaded injera nachos. The menu also includes non-pork options, as traditionally, Ethiopians are non-pork eaters.
Soon Smoke N Ash will be available for shipping nationwide thanks to their new partnership with Goldbelly, a food shipping service. Arlington residents and those in surrounding areas can try the mouth-watering food today by dining in or using their online pickup order option.
As a Chamber, we love hearing how our members have grown their businesses and Smoke N Ash has had quite the journey. We are thrilled to see how far their inventive minds and flavorful spices will take them!
