We are honored that Arlington was ranked the 9th most fiscally sound out of the 75 largest cities in the United States by the nonprofit Truth in Accounting. Arlington earned a “B” rating, the highest financial grade the Truth in Accounting gave to any city.
According to the report, the City earned its ranking by having elected officials that balance their budgets. Arlington was one of the only two cities in Texas with a taxpayer surplus instead of a taxpayer burden. The City of Arlington has $246.3 million available to pay its future bills which equals a surplus of $2,100 for every taxpayer.
This is not the first time the City has been recognized for being well managed. Last year, Arlington became the first City in Texas to receive the 2019 What Works Cities Certification which recognizes excellence in city services and innovation. Arlington was also named the best-run City in Texas by Wallet Hub in 2018 and 2019.
The City’s fiscal health and transparency are important to local businesses. We are thankful that businesses can rely on the City to determine community priorities and effectively allocate resources.
“The Chamber is proud of the recognition the City of Arlington received for sound fiscal management. The business community is a direct beneficiary of a fiscally prudent, well-managed government,” said President and CEO of the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce Michael Jacobson.
