Ideas are powerful. Great businesses, inventions and social movements start as just an idea. Our community has the next generation of visionaries; all they need is a platform. Over the past fourteen years, the “What’s Your Big Idea?” Entrepreneurship Contest has supported the dreams of Arlington ISD students in the 3rd through 8th grade. In partnership with the Arlington Independent School District, the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce is proud to empower all young people through the expansion of the “What’s Your Big Idea?” Entrepreneurship Contest into high school.
The “What’s Your Big Idea?” Entrepreneurship Contest is asking Arlington ISD high school students to tackle specific challenges provided by the City of Arlington. The contest involves AISD students brainstorming ways to resolve issues relating to public safety and the environment.
“It is truly a monumental year for the ‘What’s Your Big Idea?’ Entrepreneurship Contest,” said Alicia Collins-Butler, Education Program Manager of the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, “By expanding the program to high school students, we hope to continue our efforts developing our community’s future workforce.”
This contest enables students to gain valuable experience for college applications and resumes. They also have the chance to earn a fantastic prize pack, and their idea may be implemented as a city-wide program.
“We are fostering creativity and creating change-makers. The contest challenges students to practice critical thinking, creativity and teamwork, which are necessary skills in every workplace,” said Collins-Butler.
The “What’s Your Big Idea?” Entrepreneurship Contest would not be able to support AISD students in the 3rd through 12th grade without help from the community. If you are interested in volunteering to judge contest submissions or work the awards ceremony, please email acollinsbutler@arlingtontx.com.
