Utility Companies Empower and Support the Greater Arlington Community

Businesses around the nation are rallying together to support people in any way possible. Arlington is no different. In fact, the businesses in our community have a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. We are proud to see companies supporting the communities they are a part of and serve. The Chamber is happy to showcase our valued members who are making a difference.

Atmos energy donated $1.5 million to quickly stock the shelves at local food banks around the country, where students and families affected by the COVID-19 outbreak can access a steady supply of nutritious meals. Atmos Energy’s charitable donation will benefit the 1,400 communities the company serves, including greater Arlington.

“We greatly value our existing partnerships with so many well-respected local organizations nationwide, and this is one way that ATMOS energy can further aid those in our communities who need a helping hand,” said Kevin Akers, Atmos Energy president, and CEO.

TXU Energy has also donated to organizations that feed our community. TXU Energy is committing $450,000 to help Texans facing unprecedented challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. $200,000 will go to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund. Another $250,000 will go to 34 TXU Energy AidSM partners and other non-profits, such as Arlington Urban Ministries, Mission Arlington, The North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank.

“During this time of deep uncertainty, TXU Energy is not only focused on keeping the lights on for millions of Texans, we are also linking arms with non-profits statewide to address critical needs in our communities,” said Scott Hudson, president of TXU Energy. “This company has longstanding partnerships with social service agencies across Texas, and we are proud to stand with them as they face this invisible enemy head-on.”

In addition to supporting non-profits, utility companies are offering resources to their customers impacted by COVID-19. Oncor Energy and Reliant Energy are showing compassion during this time of need by offering deferred rent payments for those who are eligible.

With multiple businesses supporting people, there is a lot of synergy in Greater Arlington. We truly have strong business leaders that are invested in the future of our community.
