UTA Pledges Additional $25 Million in Student Scholarships

The University of Texas at Arlington has approved an additional $25 million in student scholarships over the next five years. The scholarship money focuses on student diversity as well as financial concerns for low-income families, first-generation college students, high-achieving students and families facing financial troubles due to the pandemic.

The investment will begin in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 school year. The recent investment is a prime example of the university’s stride for commitment to its students and their families.

UTA pledges to fully support students as they achieve their educational goals and to help keep the best talent in Texas. The University’s investment affirms its commitment to deliver academic excellence to all of their students.

Currently, UTA allocates more than $40 million each year toward scholarships and financial assistance for students. The university says that philanthropic and institutional funds will be leveraged to provide the future scholarship money.

Teik C. Lim, interim president of the university, offers insight into how the investment will affect the university’s future saying, “UTA stands committed to our students. At this time of great economic, social and health imperatives, it is important that we as a university step up and ensure high-achieving students receive the support they need to excel in their chosen fields as they earn their degree with us. This investment ensures that we nurture and support the diverse brain trust that will power our region and the state of Texas.”

Part of the University of Texas at Arlington’s mission is to be “committed to comprehensive programs of academic research. [They] ensure a culture of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, which includes the translation of universities discoveries for the benefit of society.”
