Arlington ISD is Going Above and Beyond During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Arlington Independent School District is going above and beyond to provide valuable resources, guidance and educational tools during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is truly amazing that in just a matter of weeks teachers, staff and administrators created innovative ways to reach students and families during this unprecedented time.

The AISD launched a district-wide survey to assess the needs of students who currently do not have access to technology. They are working tirelessly to help families receive free internet access and devices. To keep students engaged, the district also launched the At-Home Learning Hub which has free online learning tools and recommended lesson plans for every grade level and specialized program.

The AISD is letting families know that social distancing will not stop them from cultivating a positive and welcoming learning environment. Teachers are finding creative ways to engage students and families through check-up calls to parents and zoom meetings with students.

if you visit the Hale Elementary Facebook page, you’ll see first-grade teacher Lacy Gregory reading stories for students complete with optional lesson plans with guest appearances from her dog Molly. “I hate it for my kids to be without instruction. It has to be a little confusing and a little scary. One of my favorite parts of our day is when we share a story. I wanted to give them something that maybe felt normal,” said Gregory.

In addition to supporting students through online resources, the AISD is making sure no student goes hungry by providing free meals for all students during weekdays.

“These are unprecedented times which means that we must make unprecedented decisions, such as how to feed students breakfast and lunch daily while our schools are closed,” said AISD Superintendent, Dr. Marcelo Cavazos. “Thanks to the dedication of the Arlington ISD Food Services team, we were able to develop a plan to ensure all students receive daily meals until school resumes. I sincerely thank you for your ongoing care and concern for our students and teachers.”  CLICK HERE to view campus meal site locations.

Because the AISD understands the COVID-19 pandemic can be stressful, they are providing resources to cope. School counselors and officials are on call from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday to offer guidance and connecting families with community resources. While this is not intended to replace therapeutic sessions, the AISD will support students with counseling services that are normally provided throughout the school year.
