Voting Registration Information

Complete a voter registration application and return it to your county election office  30 days or less before the upcoming election date. 

• • You can create an application using the SOS ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATION
  • Pick up a voter application at your local library, any government office or download one from https://www.votetexas.gov/
  • Contact or visit your local voter registration

Eligibility to vote: If you’re a U.S. citizen, a resident of the country where you submit the application if you’re 18 on Election day, no convicted felony background, you have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

• • Required identification for voting in person:
    • Make sure you have at least 1 of these 7 acceptable forms of photo ID
  • Voting registration card:
    • After you apply, a voter registration certificate will be sent to you via mail within 30 days
    • Confirm that all of your information is correct on your certificate and if there is a mistake to make corrections on fix it then and send back to the Voter Registration immediately
  • Need to make changes?
    • Correct the changes you need to make on your voter registration certificate and return it to the Voter Registration Office to be fixed
    • Fill out a new registration form and check the “change box”
    • As long as you reside in the same country, you can change your information online at Secretary of State’s Voter Registration Name/Address Change Website

Military & Overseas Voters 

Application: 

Fill and out and file your FPCA (Federal Postcard Application) no later than the 11th day before Election Day

What does the FPCA form do?

• • • Registers you onto the permanent voter rolls 30 days after receipt by the county
    • Functions as an application for ballot by mail and gives you temporary registration status for certain offices
    • If voter marks indefinitely away (older form) / do not intend to return (newer form), voter receives federal ballot only

Ballot: 

Receive your ballot or use the FWAB (Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot) 

Ways in which you may you receive the ballot:

• • • Hard copy, E-mail and common or contract carrier. (Unmarked ballots may not be faxed under Texas law, regardless of voter’s status.)

Casting and Counting: 

Cast your vote by returning your ballot by Election Day, or the 5th day after if voting from overseas. 

Ways to return the ballot to the early voting clerk:

• • Hard copy by mail, If from military voter (Spouse or dependent) in hostile fire Pay / imminent danger pay / combat zone, may be faxed using authorized channels (insert link)

When is the deadline for returning the ballot? 

• • Regular deadline: receipt by 7:00p.m. Election Day
  • Overseas deadline: receipt by 5th day after Election Day
  • Deadline for members of the armed forces of the United States, members of the merchant marines of the United States, or their spouse or a dependent of the armed forces / merchant marine.

Voting registration

For new voter registration, they are available at the Tarrant County Elections Center

You can complete the form on your computer and then print, sign and return the completed form.

The completed application must be returned to the Elections Department in person or by mail to the address shown on the application form.

Completed applications must be returned by the 30th day before any election you desired to vote.

If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline moves forward to the next business day.

Update your  name and address:

Online name and/or address changes must be submitted by the 30th day before any election in which you desire to vote

Eligibility to vote

Must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the country and 18 years of age

If for any reason you cannot register yourself, with your permission, your spouse, parent or child may complete and sign a voter registration application for you — as long as that person is a registered voter or has applied for voter registration.

Please note that all voters who register to vote in Texas must provide a Texas driver’s license number or personal identification number issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. If you do not have such a number, then you must state that fact on the application and provide the last four digits of your social security number. If you do not have a social security number, you must also state that fact on your application. If you have neither of these identifying numbers, you will be required to present identification other than your voter registration certificate the first time you vote.
