Victor Vandergriff to Head TRTC

June 3, 2020
Victor Vandergriff was named today as the Executive Director of the Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition replacing Vic Suhm who retired after many years of service. Mr. Vandergriff has been “Mr. Transportation” in North Texas serving as the North Texas Commissioner on the Texas Transportation Commission. He was Chair of the North Texas Tollway Authority and served as the Chair of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Board. Victor grew up around the automobile industry: he is the grandson of Hooker Vandergriff , founder of the iconic Vandergriff Chevrolet in downtown Arlington. No stranger to public service: he is the son of Mayor/Congressman/County Judge Tom Vandergriff.

The announcement was made by Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, current Chair of the TRTC at the regular monthly membership meeting conducted by Zoom.

Membership at the meeting overwhelmingly approved new bylaws for the group after a motion made by North Richland Hills Mayor, Oscar Trevino. TRTC is looking to encourage more industry participation in the group. In the Post Covid-19 era, cooperation between government and private industry will be necessary to insure transportation projects can move forward in spite of limited government funding.

That point was driven home by Michael Morris, Transportation Director for the North Central Texas Council of Governments, who presented a program suggesting how North Central Texas can take advantage of the situation caused by Covid-19 and continue to grow our transportation network.
