The University of Texas at Arlington has been meeting unprecedented challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this uncertain time, UTA has seen strong leadership from Administrator-in-charge Dr. Teik Lim. This week, Lim was named the interim president of UTA.

Lim was named administrator-in-charge after former president Vistasp Karbhari stepped down March 19. The official appointment as interim president was made by UT System Chancellor James Milliken, effective immediately. “[Lim] is an accomplished and experienced academic administrator, and I believe the university will benefit from his leadership as interim president at this time,” Milliken said.

While the presidential search is temporarily paused to address the COVID-19 pandemic, we are proud to welcome Teik Lim as interim president. With the guidance of Teik Lim, the university is continuing to support its students and our community. “Our students–who come from across Texas, the United States and more than 100 countries–are the heartbeat of UTA, and have and will continue to be our primary focus during these uncertain times,” said Lim.

“UTA is truly a special place, and that is directly attributable to the dedicated faculty, staff, and students who are the fabric of the Maverick Community. I am honored and humbled to be able to serve in this role and to be a part of an institution that embraces access and excellence equally,” said Lim.

Teik Lim has proven to be a reliable member of the Chamber and the greater Arlington community. Lim is an active member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors as well as a part of the advisory council for the Asian Business Council.

“Dr. Lim has been both a strong leader for UTA and an outstanding member of our community,” said Michael Jacobson, President & CEO of the Chamber, “We know that UTA is in good hands during the interim.”
