The Arlington Museum of Art: A Cultural Leader

Keith Haring’s work is captured proudly on display at the Arlington Museum of Art. The exhibit Keith Haring: Against All Odds ran from June 21, 2019 to September 15, 2019.

The Arlington Museum of Art (AMA) is a pillar of Arlington’s cultural district. The AMA is a local gem that should be on everyone’s “must-see” list.

The Arlington Museum of Art offers the community a glimpse of internationally famous artists such as the work of Salvador Dali and Picasso. This year, the Arlington Museum of Art received well-deserved recognition from all over the DFW Metroplex, which dedicates the most per capita spending on cultural arts in Texas. The museum’s Keith Haring exhibit attracted nearly 11,000 visitors. The Star-Telegram named it “one of the best art exhibits of the year.”

For those who missed the Keith Haring exhibit, the Arlington Museum of Art will be featuring more world-renowned artists. Starting December 6th, it will host Albrecht Dürer: Master Prints, a collection of the works of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528).  Dürer established an international reputation for his remarkable skills in printmaking, which he had single-handedly elevated to an independent art form.

Concurrent with the exhibit of Dürer will be an exhibit of the photography of Dennis Hevia.  Hevia studied the use of light by the great masters of the Dutch Golden Age (primarily the 17th Century) and his portraits, while modern photography, capture the visual magic of those great artists.

While the Arlington Museum of Art showcases artists from all over the world, the AMA does not ignore its Texas roots. In October and November, it featured the work of Artist in Residence Amy J. Schultz. Her one-person exhibit Mummentous: The Upsizing of a Texas Tradition captured the magic of what is a Texas tradition.

As Amy put it, she began the project as a photographer and found herself becoming a storyteller. No place but Texas do homecoming mums have the place of honor reserved for them here. If you missed the exhibit, watch the video below to learn how Amy is living the dream in Arlington, the American Dream City.

We are proud to have the Arlington Museum of Art as a member of the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. We are thankful for the cultural enrichment that the AMA offers our residents and tourists.
