Texas Health Resources Supports Greater Arlington Community

Texas Health Resources (Texas Health) is fully committed to both sustaining the community’s health as well as serving their social responsibilities. During this unprecedented time, Texas Health is continuously working to improve treatments for COVID-19 patients and pursue ways to keep each other safe.

Texas Health takes immense pride in how their social responsibility programs affect the communities they serve. Texas Health is proud to be among the few faith-based, nonprofit health organizations in the United States to present an overview of its social responsibility and sustainability programs. Among their social purpose priorities are being a good corporate citizen and providing community health services, resources and education.

David Tesmer, chief community and public policy officer, offers insight into Texas Health’s mission during these unprecedented times, “As a faith-based, nonprofit health system, Texas Health is truly blessed to be owned by the communities we serve. We were present before this pandemic and will be here throughout this difficult situation – and long after, advancing care for those with complex diseases and providing preventive and primary care for the Arlington community and people through North Texas.”

In order to be a sustainable institution, Texas Health must evaluate their organization’s impact in four important areas of our society: economic, social, environmental and governance. Texas Health Resources recently released Texas Health’s 2019 Social Purpose Report. Some of the key accomplishments of 2019 include:

  • Providing more than $877 million to charity care and community benefit – approximately $2.4 million a day
  • Awarding $5.2 million in Texas Health Community Impact grants to help address social determinants of health and launching new programs for seniors living in isolation and youth experiencing behavioral health issues from trauma
  • Launching Hospital2Home, a free service that connects Emergency Department patients to a doctor for seven days to discuss questions, concerns and follow-up care
  • Expanding the convenient delivery of urgent care services through our affiliation with DispatchHealth
  • Advocating to end surprise medical billing for emergency or unplanned out-of-network health care in Texas, which helps prevent consumers from having to pay unexpected costs
  • Enabling consumers to choose their payment plans/terms and consolidate invoices for services performed at wholly-owned locations to help alleviate the stress and burden of paying for care
  • Opening Texas Health Frisco and expanding facilities that provide health and well-being services in Allen, Denton, Frisco, Fort Worth, Mansfield and North Fort Worth
  • Providing $2 million in charitable contributions and sponsorships by enabling employees to volunteer at a record-breaking 11,305 hours to complete 715 community service projects with local nonprofits
  • Recycling 1.9 million pounds of materials, and reducing energy and natural gas consumption
  • Saving $32 million on supply expenses and spending $10.5 million to support minority and women-owned suppliers
