Arlington is the Entertainment Capital of North Texas, and the Texas Rangers are proud to call it home. Since the 1970s, the Texas Rangers have been a source of Arlington pride. Not only do they entertain us, but the Texas Rangers also represent our community’s values. While their season is delayed, the team is spending their time coming together to help different areas of the community!
TEXAS RANGERS SUPPORT LOCAL NON-PROFIT – The Texas Rangers are partnering with United Way of Tarrant County to support our community. Together, they are raising money for United Way’s Emergency Relief Fund, which benefits those impacted by COVID-19. The money raised will be used for basic needs such as meals for senior citizens and school-aged children, baby formula, rent and utilities and child care for first responders and health care workers.
“We are grateful to the Texas Rangers for their support as we continue to raise funds and provide resources for those most impacted by COVID-19,” said Leah King, president and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County. “In the midst of the immense struggles of our family, friends and neighbors, we have been inspired by the spirit of hope, kindness and generosity of so many in our community.”
STORYTIME WITH THE TEXAS RANGERS – Rangers players and broadcasters are taking turns reading their favorite children’s books to help pass the time until the MLB season resumes. Each week, a new storytime video is released on the Texas Rangers’ Youtube channel.
TEXAS RANGERS HELP HEALTHCARE HEROES – Arlington’s treasured baseball team is also supporting those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. To give thanks to our local healthcare workers, the Texas Rangers partnered with Whataburger to provide hundreds of meals to the hard-working employees of Medical City Arlington. The Texas Rangers’ baseball jersey material is also going to be used to protected healthcare workers. Fanatics, the company that makes all MLB jerseys, is converting its manufacturing to make personal protective equipment such as hospital gowns and masks.
SHIN-SOO CHOO SUPPORTS MINOR LEAGUERS – Texas Ranger Shin-Soo Choo is supporting minor league players by giving $1,000 to each minor league player in the Texas chapter, a total of $191,000. Choo hopes that his support will encourage minor league players to continue to pursue their passion without being forced to leave their baseball career behind.
Choo was motivated to give back because of his seven years in the minor leagues as a young, first-generation immigrant. When he came to America to pursue his dreams, Choo said he struggled to make ends meet. “Think about 20 years ago, first time I came from Korea, I’ve got nothing,” he said. “Now a lot of things I have is because of baseball. … So I want to pay back to other people, especially this hard situation in the whole world. I can still help other people, that’s a good thing,” said Choo.
The vast majority of minor league players were sent home with their Major League dreams on hold. “I don’t want these guys worrying about money and have it affect their baseball careers,” Choo said. “Someday these guys are going to come up here and help us win a championship,” said Choo.
We are thankful the Rangers are continuing to bring joy to their fans and our community. We are excited to return the support when it is once again baseball time in Arlington.
