Downtown Arlington is Growing in 2022

Downtown Arlington has been ever changing since its creation in 1875. It has gone through so many different phases and in 2022, it is going to go through another set of projects to make it even better!

In 2022, Downtown will be going through six major projects. Whether it is an expansion of an already existing area or if buildings will be getting some updates to them. Here are all six changes that Downtown will be experiencing this year:

Downtown Fire Station No. 1

A new modern and more efficient build for the No. 1 Fire Station that is planned to open in 2023. The new build will be two-stories, 17,667-square-feet and will replace the old station that opened in 1954. The new facility is designed to provide a better work and living space for Arlington’s firefighters. Features will include five larger, drive-thru apparatus bays that can hold more equipment, training areas and indoor and outdoor kennels for the Fire Department’s K9 Unit, a full kitchen and a dining room, and various offices. The station will also include a public space for community events and meetings as well as a museum area about the Arlington Fire Department’s history and accomplishments, and for visitors to see historical items up close, such as an antique fire engine.

Echelon Downtown Arlington

A new residential community is headed to Downtown! 65 two to three bedroom homes will make up the new residential side of Downtown. These homes will include a rear entry with a two-car garage. These “for-lease” homes will have a common space to promote community and have fenced in front yards. Residents of this neighborhood will be able to enjoy a stroll in a public park and be within walking distance of all the excitement that is Downtown!

Main 7

Downtown’s first luxury townhomes are expanding by Summer of 2022! Phase two of the townhome villas has begun and will bring an additional 16 villas. These luxury townhomes are modeled after the Dallas Highland luxury urban villas. The Main 7 development has options of either a two or three bedroom villa with a two car garage. These downtown villas start at $415,000.

Mineral Well Fountain Clock Tower

In the 1890s, the mineral well was a major landmark that was located in the center of Arlington. In 2022, the creation of a new cultural landmark has begun in commemoration of this time in Arlington’s early history — a Mineral Well Fountain Clock Tower. Designed by Jim Richards, a national award-winning landscape architect and designer, the art installation will also include outdoor seating and a 40-foot-tall clock tower featuring four lion sculptures by local artist Janice Hart Melito. Funded by a $1,000,000 grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, the tower will be located in the plaza between the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and City Hall.

Theatre Arlington

Curtains up, the shows are about to begin! Theatre Arlington will kick-off its 49th season with a $3 million renovation. The theater’s transformation includes a new exterior an expanded lobby, new dressing rooms, two new classrooms and a new stage. With these new renovations, you can expect an enhanced production quality and patron experience.

Phase 2 of Urban Union

Phase two will include five new mixed-use buildings in addiction to restaurants, retails and loft apartments. There will also be a new office building, which will be the  key feature of phase two. It will be the first professional office building of its size in Downtown in decades. Tenants including Sutton Frost Cary LLP, Spiral Diner, Doughboy Donuts, Cow Tipping Creamery, and Coop’s Fowl Ball (a new sports bar concept featuring a family-friendly menu) have already announced they will be part of Urban Union Phase 2.
