Chamber to Host City Council Candidate Forum

The May 2, 2020 election is fast approaching, and it will determine half of the seats on Arlington’s City Council. The Council prioritizes resident satisfaction by overseeing city management and holding the staff accountable.

City Council elections are especially relevant to the business community because the council sets the tax rate and decides how local tax money is spent. City Council also influences housing values and property tax collections by voting on zoning cases and setting regulations.

Because City Council races are non-partisan, you will not be able to vote by party. It is important to learn about each candidates and decide who you want to represent and serve our community. The term limit ordinance approved by voters prevents two incumbents from running for office again, so two of the races will be between potential council newcomers.

The Chamber is helping members get to know each candidate before early voting starts on April 20th. We have invited everyone running for City Council to participate in a candidate forum on April 17, 2020 at the Chamber. Doors will open at 7:00 am and the forum will be held 8:00 am – 10:00 am.

Save the date and plan join your fellow Chamber members. There will be time before and after the formal meeting to mix and mingle with candidates and network with your fellow Chamber members. The event is complimentary with your membership, and is restricted to members of the Greater Arlington Chamber.

Of course you have to be registered to vote at your current address to cast a ballot. If you are not registered, CLICK HERE,and follow the prompts to create a mail-in application for voter registration.
