This event has A LOT jam-packed into the day, and we’ve laid out all the details below.
Event Schedule:
9:30-10:30 Professional Development (separate fee of $20)
10:30-11:30 Event Registration, Silent Auction, Bling Box Sales and Networking
11:30-1:30 Luncheon with Keynote Address and Awards Presentations (Scholarships, Small Business Grant, Hero & Rising Star Awards)
Grit & Grace: As women, we hold ourselves to a higher standard to not crack under pressure, to balance a million different tasks, to always be on. We strive to be our best selves even during the rockiest of times. Over the past two years, we’ve learned to not only give others grace but show ourselves grace. To be resilient, we need to take it one step at a time and accept that we may falter. We can and will get through anything as long as we embrace a life of Grit and Grace.
Keynote Speaker: Award-winning entrepreneur, Kenya Mobley, is the owner of On Track Truck Driving School. She has made history by being the first female to own a truck driving school in Arlington, Texas. Motivated by her humble beginnings and determination to beat the odds, as once a teenage mother, she founded the Code Purple organization to mentor teenage mothers. Mobley is also the author of a motivational journal titled, One Step Closer – 90 Day Guide to Self-Love. She is a powerful motivational speaker who has been featured in many articles and has won several awards including the Live Life Epic Award and the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 Quest for Success Award. We’re also proud to have her as an active member of the Greater Arlington Chamber.
Silent Auction: At the very first IWL, we awarded one $1,000 scholarship with the donation coming from Dr. Judith J Carrier, former President of TTC-SE. That has grown significantly over the years thanks to our Silent Auction & Bling Boxes (more details on those below). 100% of the Silent Auction net proceeds go towards the Dr. Judith J Carrier Scholarship Program. If you would like to donate an experience or item, please reach out to our Silent Auction Chair, Kelly Geer at kelly@urbantreemerchants.com. We need all experiences and items donated by Friday, February 18.
Bling Boxes: When you purchase a $50 Bling Box, you are helping send young women to the colleges in our community – UTA and TCC-SE. Just as above, 100% of the net proceeds go toward the Dr. Judith J Carrier Scholarship Program. This year’s Bling Box features a stainless steel bracelet engraved with I am Grit & Grace on the inside. The beautiful thing about this bracelet is, we want you to pass it along. You may know someone going through a hard time. Give this to them as a reminder to be resilient, to help them get through whatever they may be going through at the moment. Tell them to pass it along once they find someone who needs that message reinforced. Embracing a life of Grit & Grace isn’t a message just for today; it’s a message for every day, the good and the bad, to be tough and to be kind. To not take things too personally and to understand we all make mistakes, including ourselves.
Hero & Rising Star Awards: The Hero & Rising Star Awards are the most prestigious awards granted under the Women’s Alliance, recognizing women who are the very definition of a “servant leader”. These recipients continually prioritize their commitment to their community by paving the way for others to create change while leaving a legacy. To learn more about the Hero and Rising Awards and their past recipients, click here.
Scholarships: This year, the Women’s Alliance is thrilled to be awarding $17,500 in college scholarships this year to current undergraduate, graduate and nursing students. To learn more, click here. Applications closed December 10, 2021.
Optional Professional Development: Each year, we provide an optional professional development for our IWL attendees to get the most out of their experience. We are thrilled with our Grit & Grace Panel this year who will be discussing the key moment in their career when they learned the importance of granting themselves grace and using determination to persevere through a situation. Our panel includes five fabulous speakers: Dr. Kimberley Cantu, MISD Superintendent; Commissioner Devan Allen, Tarrant County Precinct 2; Carmenza Moreno, Chick-Fil-A Owner; and Shelli Walker, PeopleResults as well as our moderator, Cindy Salter. The session has a maximum capacity of 150 attendees. Make sure to reserve your seat! There is a separate fee of $20 per attendee, register here. You can only attend this session if you are attending the full luncheon.
Sponsors: We are incredibly thankful to all of our sponsors. Please take a moment to scroll through all of them below. We appreciate each business that supports the amazing causes of the Greater Arlington Chamber and the Women’s Alliance. If you would like to sponsor IWL, please contact Sherry Jackson.
