A total of 22 candidates have filed to run in the May 1st Arlington city elections: 8 candidates for Mayor and 14 for four city council seats. Early voting in person will begin April 19th and end on April 27th. Mayor Jeff Williams is term limited and cannot run for reelection. A total of eight candidates have filed for the job of Mayor.
A total of 5 candidates have filed to compete to represent District 3 which is located in Southeast Arlington. City Council Member Marvin Sutton is not running for reelection in the District in order to be on the ballot for Mayor. Five candidates have also filed for District 4 covering west central Arlington. City Council Member Andrew Piel is the incumbent and is standing for reelection.
Two candidates are running for District 5 which is located in the east central part of the city. City Council Member Dr. Ignacio Nuñez, the incumbent, chose not to run for reelection. District 8 is a citywide district and two candidates are vying for that position including Incumbent City Council Member Barbara Odom-Wesley.
The Greater Arlington Chamber will host a virtual candidate forum for city council elections on Wednesday, April 7th. A second virtual candidate forum for the mayoral election will be Wednesday, April 14th. Both events will be from 8:00 am until 10:00 am. It is possible that one or more of these elections will not have a clear winner who polls 50% plus one vote. In that case, a runoff election date has been set for June 5th.
