The Greater Arlington Chamber is proud to partner with the Arlington Independent School District to provide a number of educational initiatives through our Partners in Education (PIE) Program. One of the many ways the Chamber develops the community’s future is by investing in our youth. Our partnerships allow us to support the ambitions of Arlington ISD students by awarding scholarships.
Through the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program and the Innovation Scholarship Program sponsored by the Pettinger Foundation, the Chamber is proud to announce that we have awarded a total of $39,400 to the AISD class of 2020 and have impacted the lives of 17 graduating seniors.
2020 was a monumental year for Partners in Education (PIE). For the first time ever, through additional funding, we were able to award four additional scholarships ranging from $1,000-$2,500 to first-generation college students. Three of these scholarships have been awarded to Chamber Scholarship recipients, increasing their total award amount.
Since its inception, our Chamber scholarship program has awarded $122,000 to graduating seniors in AISD to pursue higher education. Through this program, we are engaging the future leaders of our community. We encourage AISD students to think critically by researching their chosen career pathway and reflect upon how it will impact the community.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chamber was unable to interview the top two candidates from each high school to select seven Chamber Scholarship recipients. As a response, our scholarship sub-committee came together and found a way to award both top candidates with scholarships.
The Chamber is also proud to partner with the Pettinger Foundation to honor two AISD graduating seniors with $5,000 to obtain a four-year degree in science, engineering or mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington. Students are challenged to create a new product or solve a current problem that will advance their chosen career pathway and enrich the lives of humanity.
We would like to thank the Pettinger Foundation and the Arlington Independent School District for their continued partnerships. Our community is filled with bright and talented young individuals, and the Greater Arlington Chamber is honored to have the opportunity to help support their futures.
Please join us in recognizing our 2020 scholarship recipients. Our recipients will be attending a variety of top-notch colleges and universities including Tarrant County College, the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of Texas at Austin, Cornell University, Texas Wesleyan University, Scripps College, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Baylor University and Texas Tech University.
