Unleash Your Life

When we went on a recent vacation, we took our dog, Lulu, with us, and because our location was somewhat remote, we had to put her on a leash to go outside. I didn’t want her to run away, encounter a snake, or get hurt in any way!
Leashes are great for keeping our dogs safe, but it got me thinking….how many of us are going through life wearing an invisible leash? I addressed this topic at the March Coaching Hour with “UnLEASH Your Life,” a unique seminar that helps participants learn about the things that might be holding them back in life (the leash), and how to UnLEASH to design, create, and live their best life!
For many, the leash represents Limiting Beliefs. Even the most successful people say that they have struggled with limiting beliefs, and when they overcame them, it was transformational. Participants identified their limiting beliefs, replaced them with Positive Statements of Truth, and then (literally!) shredded their limiting beliefs for good.
For others, the leash represents Emotions. Sadness, anger, fear, jealousy, and other emotions can derail us and keep us leashed.
Still others are waiting for Approval from Others before they identify and embark on creating their best life. (Spoiler Alert: When you are moving forward, growing, and creating something new, there will always be pessimists….do it anyway!)
The need for Safety and Security is what holds some of us back. But, in my experience, I’ve learned that our best life – the one that makes us jump out of bed with excitement – is just beyond our safety zone (the leash).
And for others, life has hit them hard, leading to the leash of Hopelessness. Facing job loss, divorce, illness, financial issues, etc. makes it hard to move forward and thrive, but Winston Churchill is noted as saying, “If you’re going through hell, just keep going.” There are better days ahead.

Now that we’ve identified the things that keep people chained to their “leash,” what does it look like to UNLEASH? To.,..,
Uncover your purpose?
Nurture yourself through the process?
Let go! (Of anything that isn’t helping you move forward)
Embrace your uniqueness?
Acknowledge your strengths, talents, gifts, and abilities?

Show up, every day, never giving up on your dreams?
and…
Have the life you’ve dreamed of?
Is it possible? The answer is, “Yes!” Sometimes it just takes a little help to identify your leash, dream about the possibilities that lie ahead as you design your dream life, and put a plan into action. A coach, trusted friend, or spouse can often help you see things in a different way and hold you accountable to make your dream life come true!
