From a young age, Jamil Ahmed, has been working towards the American Dream. He was able to find that right here in Arlington, the Dream City!
Jamil is a Muslim Asian American Immigrant. Born in Bangladesh and moved to the United States when he was six. In search of the American Dream, Jamil’s family found it in the form of a family business and at eight-years-old, he was working alongside his uncle after school. These were the evenings where he learned about the importance of community and serving others.
Today, Jamil has been a financial advisor with Edward Jones for the past three and a half years. His focus is on meeting the needs of individual investors by offering a broad range of financial solutions, including municipal, government and corporate bonds, mutual funds, common stocks, variable and fixed annuities, life insurance and long-term care insurance. Jamil says, “I help my clients achieve their financial goals by understanding their needs and implementing tailored solutions.”
His process of identifying the client’s needs is done by gathering information about their current financial picture and investment goals. He then translates these needs into specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound goals. After analyzing these goals, Jamil will recommend appropriate investments, insurance, and services to help the client achieve their financial goals.
Being a Financial Advisor was not the original plan for Jamil. He said, “I didn’t think about this field as a career until four years ago when a friend of mine told me to look into it.” After realizing that financial planning was a great fit for him, he ultimately chose Edward Jones due to the education and support he would receive in building his practice.
When asked what being a small business owner meant to him, Jamil replied, “Being a small business owner means being able to lead the way in the community and help others pave a path to their success. During a talk I gave in DC at the CFP Diversity Conference I spoke about the American Dream. People often talk about business ownership in that light but they don’t see the American Struggle and business ownership is long days, short nights and hard work to deliver the right results to help people who believe in you while you attempt to get others to see your value and not everyone will.”
Jamil recently earned a CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst) designation which is the fourth certification/designation that he has received in his short time as a financial advisor. He also has a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification, Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation and the Accredited Asset Management Specialist designation. Jamil is an active member in the Chamber and was even chair for two years of the Asian Business Council. He is a family man by nature and works hard to make sure his children have all the resources for success and to create their own American Dreams.
