During the reimagined Greater Arlington Chamber’s 16th Annual State of the District, presented by Prince Lebanese Grill, attendees got a firsthand look at the Arlington ISD student experience through interactive sessions, highlighting the depth of student programming.
Following lunch, student ambassadors guided attendees through a series of elective-style classes, where they observed programs from across the district. From robotics and construction to cosmetology and the fire academy, each session offered a glimpse into the hands-on learning opportunities available to Arlington ISD students, allowing attendees to experience the classroom environment in a new and meaningful way.
Attendees then moved into a “school assembly,” where Arlington High School Show Choir and pianist Huy Dinh performed and Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith shared updates on academic progress, district priorities and the vision guiding student success.

“Arlington ISD creates exceptional learning experiences that inspire all students, empower them to dream and prepares them for the future,” Smith said.
Smith highlighted a successful appeal to the Texas Education Agency that led to increased accountability scores across the district. Six campuses improved a letter grade in their ratings, while 36 campuses saw an increase in overall scores.

“Most importantly, the students now have a fair score that demonstrates their work, and we are excited about that,” Smith said.
The district continues to strengthen the student experience through a curriculum audit and ongoing classroom observations focused on alignment, engagement and rigor. Smith emphasized the importance of strong educators in every classroom, noting 100% of Arlington ISD’s full-time teachers are certified.
Wanting to increase family engagement, the district began implementing tools to create more welcoming campuses and improve communication, providing families with more accessible answers to their questions.
Safety and security remain a priority across Arlington ISD, strengthening campus culture and supporting positive student behavior. Smith said the district is focused on creating consistent, safe learning environments for all students.
Smith also addressed the recent changes to public education, including increased competition from charter schools and the need for Arlington ISD to remain the top choice for families through strong programming and intentional storytelling.
“The state of Arlington ISD is strong,” Smith said. “We have amazing leadership at our board level, outstanding staff and phenomenal teachers in our classrooms for our students. We will continue to be relentless until we achieve exceptional for each and every student that we serve.”
As part of the address, Smith shared why the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees called for a bond election in May. The Greater Arlington Chamber proudly supports the 2026 Arlington ISD Bond and encourages you to vote YES on all three propositions. Learn more about the bond HERE.
