As part of the annual Inspired Women Luncheon, the Greater Arlington Chamber’s Women’s Alliance bestows two honors on individuals who walk in an unmatched commitment to making a difference in Arlington. These women represent some of the best in our community. They are strong leaders who put others’ needs above their own to bring people together and facilitate change.
The Hero Award is given to honor women who have dedicated their lives to making a lasting impact in our community. Our Hero Award recipients have created a legacy through tenured, consistent contributions.
This year’s recipient, Karen Williams has been a dedicated member of the community working towards a better future for all the children of Arlington with a focus on education and community development since moving to the city in 1984.
“To be a hero, today, is untouchable,” Williams said. “I’m just an every ordinary mom, friend, coworker, colleague, and the thought of being a hero today is humbling.”
Williams encouraged others to be who they are, use their talents and become a gamechanger.
“The sky’s the limit,” she said. “I would tell you that the women of this city are gamechangers, and they’re heroes in every way.”
The Rising Star Award is given to recognize women who are paving the way for significant community impact. Although they may be early in their career or involvement, these women exemplify strong leadership with a commitment to positive change.
This year’s recipient, Stephanie Buduhan grew up in Arlington and is committed to nurture the next generation of leaders in our community.
“It’s a really special moment to me,” Buduhan said. “The Chamber has a special place in my heart and to be recognized through them means a lot.”
Buduhan shared how women in the Chamber mentored her and gave her the courage throw her playbook out the window and start her own business. Now, she’s committed to doing the same for others.
“The people here really are special,” Buduhan said. “They want to see me succeed, and I want to help other women who are coming up behind me starting their businesses.”
