Business Week 2010, scheduled April 12-16, will focus on a concept known as the “innovation economy”, which is defined by an economic doctrine that places knowledge, technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation as the primary elements of economic growth.

The Business Week 2010 theme will provide students insight into how innovations in the marketplace might change the way we do business across key industries. More specifically, we will focus on the business case for nanotechnology and its applications in various product and service markets, including transportation and logistics, construction, medicine and health care, energy, and sports and entertainment.

In addition, Business Week 2010 will include a “Nano 101” session repeated through the week to provide business students with a basic understanding of nanotechnology concepts and terminology that will be presented by UT Arlington faculty and nanotech researchers. Job opportunities for business students in the innovation economy will also be addressed by human resource executives visiting classes throughout the week.

A highlight of Business Week 2010 will be the Executive Dinner on Tuesday, April 13. The event’s keynote speaker will be Bruce Tanner (MBA ‘90), chief financial officer for Lockheed Martin Corporation.

For students, Business Week is an opportunity meld theory with application. Guest speakers will present during regular undergraduate and graduate classes. Students not enrolled in these classes may attend the guest speaker presentations. Featured speakers will include executives, thought leaders, and administrators working primarily in the North Texas region.
