Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley, a member of the county commissioners court since 1997, serves as the head administrative official for the county government, which has more than 4,000 employees and locations in all areas of Tarrant County. The county is the main agency responsible for the administration of criminal justice, the civil and family court systems, public health and is a significant player in local transportation decisions. Judge Whitley will present a first-ever State of the County address.

Judge Glen Whitley presides over the Tarrant County Commissioners Court. He is a regional leader on transportation, sustainable communities, efficiently run government, air quality, support for veterans and military families and youth and children’s issues.
Judge Whitley graduated from Grand Prairie High School, earned an accounting degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1983, he co-founded the accounting firm of Whitley Penn which has offices in Fort Worth and Dallas. He was elected a Tarrant County Commissioner in 1996 and Tarrant County Judge in 2006.
Judge Whitley is the immediate past president of the National Association of Counties and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, organizations that help local government develop policy, recognize regional opportunities and make joint decisions. He continues to serve on the executive board of both groups. Judge Whitley is a past chairman of the Regional Transportation Council, the metropolitan planning organization for North Texas, and he has served as chairman of the Texas Conference of Urban Counties.
To better serve the public, Judge Whitley helped guide the construction of courthouses in Fort Worth and sub-courthouses in the community. Under his leadership, the county’s bond package helped cities build and widen roads. He also played a leading role in improving access and care at the JPS Health Network. All accomplished without raising local county taxes.
Judge Whitley was named County Leader of the Year for 2010 by American City and County magazine. He and his wife, Brenda, live in Hurst, Texas, have three grown children, a grandson and two granddaughters.
