Overview

The North Arlington Business Council (NABC) was established in late 2007 to work collaboratively with the city to address issues and concerns important to business in the northern sector of the community.  This initiative has been created to reinvigorate North Arlington and ensure sustainability by leveraging resources, increasing citizen participation, and encouraging community stakeholder collaborations.

Since its inception, the NABC has focused on the following issues:

  • To encourage ALL businesses to actively participate in police assistance and community crime prevention.
  • To encourage code compliance and enforcement through publicity published Business Report Cards and peer reviews.
  • To promote quality of life improvements and communication among businesses.
  • To encourage quality business and residential development/redevelopment in North Arlington

In 2008 NABC helped launch the first Commercial Code Ranger Training Course along with the City to help local businesses become familiar with code violations and to enhance the aesthetics in North Arlington.  In addition to this, NABC worked closely with the Arlington Police Department to address crime and public safety by educating businesses on crime prevention practices.  This measure helped reduce crime in North Arlington by 8% in 2008 compared to 5% city-wide.

The North Arlington Business Council encourages businesses in this sector of the community to get involved with the Council.  Critical input from local businesses provides valuable insight on issues important to North Arlington and on helping develop a strong, cohesive business voice.

The NABC is a component of the Center for Business and Community Development.  The Council is supported by a diverse group of business leaders that make up the Executive Committee.  Active support from the City of Arlington helps achieve the annual strategic work-plan.
